A Youth Supervision Order (YSO) is similar to Probation, however the young person is subject to more intensive supervision and support. The child must also complete unpaid community work if directed by Youth Justice.
A YSO is designed for children who commit serious offences or who have been in trouble once or twice before.

Court may impose youth supervision order
- If the Court finds a child guilty of one or more offences, whether indictable or summary, the Court may, with or without conviction, release the child on a youth supervision order for a specified term—
(a) not exceeding 12 months; or
(b) not exceeding 18 months if the offence or one of the offences is punishable by imprisonment for a term of more than 10 years—
and not extending beyond his or her twenty-first birthday.
